Erdogan: It is very important for as many countries as possible to recognize the State of Palestine

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope on Tuesday that the administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, once he takes office, will take more prudent steps towards peace, Anadolu reports.

Reaffirming support for the people of Gaza, who have been facing relentless Israeli attacks for 14 months, Erdogan stated that “Turkey will continue to stand with the oppressed, even if we are alone in doing so“.

The Turkish president also called on NATO to evaluate Russia`s revisions of its nuclear doctrine.

“We cannot say there is any positive aspect to a war where nuclear weapons are used. NATO officials should consider this step taken by Russia“, Erdogan said.

He also reiterated hope for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

“I hope we will soon achieve a permanent ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, bringing the peace the world has been waiting for,“ commenting on the 1 000 days since Russia launched its “special military operation“ in Ukraine.

According to the new doctrine, Russia might consider using nuclear weapons if subjected to a conventional missile attack by a nuclear power.

The change in doctrine comes after U.S. President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use long-range American missiles to strike deep into Russian territory.
