Inhumane conditions: Doctors at Al-Aqsa Hospital in Gaza are performing surgeries without anesthesia

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip face severe shortages of medications and medical equipment due to restrictions on the entry of medical supplies into the Palestinian enclave, which remains under Israeli attacks and embargo.

Doctors at Al-Aqsa Hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah are forced to perform surgeries on patients injured in Israeli attacks without anaesthesia.

Dr. Iyad Muhhammad al-Jabari, who works at the hospital, stated that despite the health crisis in the region, necessary medical services cannot be provided to Palestinian patients due to the lack of essential medical supplies and power generators.

He mentions that many severely injured patients who arrived at the hospital have died due to the absence of anaesthesia.

Since October 5, Israel has launched a large-scale ground operation in northern Gaza, claiming it aims to prevent the Palestinian resistance group Hamas from regrouping. However, Palestinians accuse Israel of attempting to occupy the area and forcibly displace its residents.

Since then, no humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, or fuel, has been delivered to the area, leaving the majority of the population on the brink of starvation. More that 2 000 people have been killed during this time, according to Palestinian health authorities.

The attack is the latest episode in Israel`s brutal war on the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of 43 922 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since October 7, 2023.

Israel is facing a genocide case in the International Court of Justice over its deadly war in Gaza.
