Călin Georgescu, the Pro-Russia Election Candidate was brought in for questioning at the General Prosecutor`s Office

The pro-Russian politician, Călin Georgescu is under scrutiny over the finances behind his controversial yet victorious election campaign from late last year.

Today, Călin Georgescu, the leading candidate in the upcoming election, was brought in for police questioning regarding last November’s annulled vote, which he had won.

Local politicians revealed that Georgescu was expected to announce his bid for the presidency today.

According to local reports, prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for him and have begun raiding the properties of his close associates, including mercenary leader Horațiu Potra and his personal bodyguard.

Romanian prosecutors suspect 27 individuals of crimes including undermining the constitutional order, public incitement, founding a fascist organization, and misrepresenting the financial sources of an election campaign. However, their official statement did not name Georgescu or his associates directly.

Following reports of the raids on Wednesday morning, Georgescu claimed that the searches were a deliberate attempt to prevent his presidential campaign.
