A Romanian activist has gathered an unprecedented sum in support of Ukraine following U.S. President Donald Trump`s declaration of plans to halt military assistance to the country.
The Fundraising effort was led by Radu Hossu, a journalist and advocate, who has been focused on securing financial contributions specifically for Ukraine`s defence. His latest campaign aimed to finance reconnaissance drones and electronic warfare equipment. Within just 46 hours of launching, the initiative amassed €64,000, setting a new milestone for the fastest amount raised since the onset of Russia`s full-scale invasion. The majority of donations came from supporters in Romania and Moldova. In just a day and a half, 897 individuals contributed, with an average donation of around €42.
Experts in the military field sustain that should Ukraine fall, the Republic of Moldova would be next, followed by potential threats to the Baltic states and even Romania itself. They emphasized that even those indifferent to Ukraine`s fate should consider the long-term consequences for their own families, making continued aid to Ukraine essential.
The funds collected so far represent only an initial sum. If donations continue at the current pace, he believes the campaign could reach €1 million within two weeks. He also underline that the initiative is strictly intended for non-lethal purposes, ensuring that the equipment purchased is designed to save lives rather than taking them.
Radu Hossu`s involvement is supporting Ukraine dates back to August 2022 and remains ongoing. Over this period, he has successfully raised more than €800,000 for the cause.
