During a full Senate Session, 108 affirmative votes were recorder for a bill that confirms the Headquarters Agreement of the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technological and Research Competence Center (ECCC) – making the first time a European Agency is based in Romania. Mircea Abrudean, the acting Senate president, highlighted that this development positions our nation as a key support in the defence framework.
In a comprehensive meeting, the Senate sanctioned the legislation ratifying the Headquarters Agreement for the ECCC. The regulatory measure, which the Chamber of Deputies endorsed on February 19, was approved with 108 votes, while 9 senators opposed it and 7 refrained from voting.
The ECCC`s facilities, as Romania`s inaugural host of a European agency, will be established on the Politehnica University of Bucharest campus in a newly build headquarters funded by the European Union.
Abrudean noted that the ECCC allocates several hundred million euros annually at the community level to fund research and innovation projects in cybersecurity – a critical factor for both national and economic protection. He expressed his satisfaction that Romania is now a vital component of this defence strategy.
