Their statements suggested they had the support of some major powers. It turns out that this is not the case, said Stanivuković.
The views expressed by U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio are completely different from what we heard from the leaders of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska (RS), who claimed that the new administration in the U.S. and President Donald Trump would understand their moves and policies, said Draško Stanivuković, the president of PDP.
He warned that RS, due to the leadership’s policies, has been brought into uncertainty and adventure.
“Their statements suggested they had the support of some major powers. It turns out that this is not the case. It is very dangerous if they have embarked on these activities without the support they claimed to have,” said Stanivuković.
He emphasized that Republika Srpska cannot be isolated from the world and called on all political actors in both RS and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to engage in dialogue.
“Let’s try to return to the constitutional-legal framework, in every sense,” said Stanivuković.
He added that his party did not support the laws prohibiting the functioning of BiH institutions in the territory of Republika Srpska.
“PDP did not support these laws because we knew what a risk they posed. We heard what the leadership of RS was saying, but we had no confirmation of that. We didn’t have a U.S. Secretary of State saying, ‘What you’re doing in Republika Srpska makes sense,’” said Stanivuković.
In response to journalists’ questions, Stanivuković reiterated that by participating in talks on changes to the RS Constitution, he was not defending Milorad Dodik but the institutions of RS.
“I attended two meetings: one at the RS Government and one at the RS National Assembly. Milorad Dodik did not attend either of those meetings. After all, PDP did not support the adoption of the laws proposed by his SNSD,” Stanivuković reminded.
