The political turmoil in Republika Srpska continues today: “Anything to protect Dodik”

The 19th special session, which will initiate the process of adopting a new constitution for Republika Srpska, will be held today at 11:00 AM. One hour after the session concludes, the 20th special session of the RS National Assembly is scheduled, during which the draft of the new constitution proposal is expected to be adopted.

Political Turmoil

During the special session of the entity`s parliament, the proposal for the Law on the Protection of the Constitutional Order of Republika Srpska will be discussed under an urgent procedure, at the request of Milorad Dodik. Additionally, plans are in place to establish a special prosecutor`s office for the protection of Republika Srpska`s constitutional order.

The NSRS Collegium has formed a working group for drafting the new Constitution of Republika Srpska, composed of:

  • Vitomir Popović (Professor)
  • Miloš Bukejlović (Minister of Justice)
  • Jelena Pajić Baštinac (General Secretary to the RS President)
  • Marko Romić (Advisor to the RS President)
  • Dalibor Panić (General Secretary of the RS Government)
  • Senka Jujić (Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government)
  • Mile Dmičić (Professor)
  • Dragan Dakić (Assistant Professor)
  • Tiho Džakić

Ognjen Bodiroga, head of the SDS caucus in the RS National Assembly, stated that the political chaos in Republika Srpska continues. He argues that now is not the time for constitutional changes and that this entire process is being carried out to protect one man – Milorad Dodik.

They called the 19th special session of the NSRS regarding the RS Constitution. That wouldn`t be an issue, but in the next 12 hours, the ruling structure is scheduling two more sessions. I asked how they plan to prepare for two sessions in just 24 hours? I didn`t get an answer. They are distracting the public with various events that deepen the crisis and endanger RS`s survival,“ said Bodiroga.

Meanwhile, Nebojša Vukanović, head of the Justice and Order List caucus in NSRS, warned that the proposed Law on the Protection of the Constitutional Order of RS, which is set to be discussed in tomorrow’s session, is dangerous.

If we survive this, they’ll call us crazy. They don’t have an answer as to why Darko Ćulum hasn’t been arrested if the RS SIPA law is in force. They have lost their minds. Dodik no longer has Aleksandar Vučić’s support, as Vučić is dealing with his own problems. Dodik wants to burn everything down with him. There is a Chinese proverb that says: ‘Evil people are willing to burn their country just to rule over the ashes.’” said Vukanović.

The Vice President of the PDP and member of the National Assembly, Igor Crnadak, has called on the majority MPs not to support the adoption of changes to the Constitution of Republika Srpska.

Urgent Reforms

“Stop the path to destruction and do not adopt the decision on amending the Constitution of Republika Srpska. Republika Srpska does not need conflicts and isolation. We need peace and stability, strong economic and business connections, and new investments. We do not need a policy that turns us against the entire world. The laws from February 27 have been condemned by everyone,” Crnadak emphasized.

The Main Board of the Serbian Democratic Party has adopted a Declaration on the Current Political Situation in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, calling for the protection and preservation of the entity and the implementation of urgent reforms.

The draft of the new RS Constitution is described as secessionist and therefore unfeasible, said the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, Nermin Nikšić.

The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Republika Srpska must respect the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“RS must respect the competencies and decisions of judicial institutions at the state level,” the Ministry emphasized.
