High Representative Christian Schmidt sent a message today to employees of state institutions living in Republika Srpska, who have become targets of blackmail and threats from RS President Milorad Dodik. With his statement, Schmidt aims to reassure this segment of the population in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Dear citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, today I am particularly addressing those who work as employees of state institutions. Thank you. Thank you for what you do in SIPA, in the Court of BiH, and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, as well as in all other state institutions.”
“You are doing an exceptionally good job. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring the rule of law. Nothing else is expected, and those in Republika Srpska who are pressuring you with claims that you could lose your property or end up in prison just because you do not follow the ideas of certain individuals – that will not happen!”
“Why? Because we do not live in North Korea, where one person decides the fate of all citizens of that country. We live in free Europe, where different opinions can exist.
In a democratic society, there is a clear procedure that must be followed when opinions differ. I believe you can rely on the Constitution, you can rely on the courts, and you can rely on those who care about the peaceful future of this country. Any other ideas should not be supported,” Schmidt stated.
