The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, responded sharply to the statements made by the leader of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Bakir Izetbegović, regarding the possible arrest of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik. Vulin stated that such an act would not merely be a judicial measure but rather “a direct attack on the existence of Republika Srpska.”
“This is not just the arrest of one man; it is an attempt to extinguish Republika Srpska,” Vulin declared, emphasizing that such a move would have far-reaching consequences for the stability of the entire region.
In his statement, Vulin reminded that, as he put it, “the Federation of BiH is not the guarantor of Serbia’s existence, but rather Serbia is the guarantor of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the guardian of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s integrity.”
Reacting to Izetbegović’s statements that Serbia would not respond in the event of Dodik’s detention, Vulin added that neither Serbia nor Bosnia and Herzegovina, as he stated, “are under foreign guardianship,” emphasizing that it is time to abandon such perceptions.
“Bakir Izetbegović must understand that,” Vulin said, alluding to the increasingly frequent international calls for action against separatist tendencies in the entity of Republika Srpska.
Commenting on the role of the opposition in Republika Srpska, the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister stated that Izetbegović cannot count on Dodik’s political opponents when it comes to what he called “the fight against Serbs.”
“The opposition in Srpska is not an opposition to Srpska and the Serbs,” Vulin concluded.
