Dr. Borislav Mišo Đurišić, the leader of the ``Rad za moj grad“ movement, emphasized their commitment to giving citizens the power to decide and creating a city where they truly own their future. He envisions a place where every voice matters, every suggestion has weight, and decisions are made collectively. According to him, it`s time for Nikšić to move away from being ruled by political parties from Podgorica who have ignored the city`s needs. He called for a city where citizens directly participate in decision-making through digital platforms, referendums, and initiatives, making the process transparent and accountable. Local communities would become the real centers of decision-making, where people can freely express their needs, far from the influence of corrupt politicians.
Đurišić also outlined plans for the future, including the creation of public squares in each community to serve as gathering places for citizens to discuss, make decisions, and foster unity. He drew inspiration from Switzerland`s direct democracy model but emphasized the importance of preserving local traditions and culture. The goal, he said, is to bring democracy closer to the people, making it a gradual and collective learning process.
True democracy, he noted, only works when citizens feel strong sense of community and responsibility. Over the years, this sense of belonging has faded, and Đurišić`s plan is to rebuild it through cultural events, local traditions, sports activities, and community work. He wants Nikšić to become a model for other cities in Montenegro, a place where people not only want to live but are proud to call home. His movement has already shown that significant improvements can be made with little funding and a lot of determination. Now, he says, it`s time for change. “Choose Nikšić,“ he concluded.
It really feels like the right time for a shift in how things are done. For too long, decisions have been made by a small group of politicians, and it`s clear that citizens should be the ones driving change. Đurišić`s idea of giving people a real voice through digital platforms, referendums, and community involvement seems like the way forward.
It`s all about rebuilding that sense of community and making sure everyone`s opinions matter. In a way, it`s about taking power back from the political elite and making local democracy truly meaningful. If Nikšić can lead the way, maybe other places will follow suit. It`s a fresh, hopeful vision, and it makes me believe that change is not only possible but essential.
