The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, attended important diplomatic meetings in Luxembourg as part of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council session.
The evening before, he participated in an informal dinner organized by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, for EU and Western Balkan ministers.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Konaković had “very constructive discussions” with his counterparts from EU member states and the region during the meetings.
He briefed them on the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and emphasized the importance of supporting pro-European forces in the country to accelerate Bosnia’s path to EU membership. In this context, he highlighted the importance of regional peace and stability, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Particular attention was drawn to the bilateral meeting Konaković held with EU Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Kos, where the focus was on Bosnia’s European journey, as well as a warning about the destabilizing actions of the President of Republika Srpska.
The focus of the discussion was the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the country’s European path. It was emphasized that the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina requires more attention from the EU and that an urgent response is needed to address the threats and destabilizing actions of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the leadership of that Bosnian entity, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the continuation of the meeting, it was confirmed that discussions were held on the reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the next steps in the context of European integration, including the adoption of the Negotiating Framework and preparations for the First Intergovernmental Conference.
