A delegation of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić (SDP), is on an official visit to the United States. The first stop was a meeting at the State Department with Acting Assistant Secretary and Director of the Office of European and Eurasian Affairs, Louis L. Bono.
According to a statement from the FBiH Government, many current issues were discussed during the meeting, including how the new U.S. administration strategically perceives Bosnia and Herzegovina. As an indicator of that orientation, it was highlighted that the Southern Interconnection gas pipeline project is the only USAID project to have direct support from the U.S. administration.
During the meeting, as stated by the government, “unequivocal support for the sovereignty and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a fundamental commitment of the U.S.” was confirmed. The importance of the Southern Interconnection was also emphasized in the context of strengthening the relations between the two countries.
Louis L. Bono also expressed his personal commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina, recalling that at the beginning of his career, he served in BiH as a member of the military forces.
The official visit of the FBiH Government delegation began with a meeting with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United States, Sven Alkalaj, who briefed the delegation on current diplomatic activities. They also discussed political and developmental issues significant for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prime Minister Nikšić emphasized the importance of the BiH Mission in Washington, highlighting that the United States is a strategic friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as stated by the FBiH Government.
