President of Serbia Aleksandr Vučić stated today that Serbia will continue to openly and constructively highlight the status of Serbs in Montenegro, advocating for rights, identify, and cultural heritage. His remarks came after receiving the credentials of Montenegro`s newly appointed ambassador to Serbia, Nebojša Đoković. Vučić welcomed Đoković warmly and wished him a successful diplomatic mission, sharing the update via his official Facebook page.
Meanwhile in Podgorica, Montenegro`s Minister of Public Administration, Maraš Dukaj, met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska. Together, they visited the Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Centre (WB3C) and Montenegro`s Government Security Operation Centre (GSOC).
Dukaj highlighted that the 2022 cyberattack on Montenegro underscored the importance of NATO membership and served as a catalyst for strategic reform. He emphasized that, in less than three years, Montenegro has made significant progress in strengthening its cyber defence systems, working closely with allies and partners.
Thanks to the Regional Cyber Centre based in Podgorica, Montenegro is increasingly seen as a hub for sharing knowledge and enhancing regional cybersecurity.
He further stressed that the center`s presence in the capital reflects Montenegro`s dedication not only to national security but to broader regional stability. As a NATO member and EU candidate, Montenegro is showing clear commitment to meeting European standards and contributing to collective security frameworks.
Šekerinska praised Montenegro’s achievements, noting the country’s rapid development in the field of cybersecurity and its increasing importance as a regional actor within NATO.
It`s interesting to see how the region is evolving on multiple fronts diplomatically and strategically. Serbia`s messaging on the rights of Serbs in Montenegro is a continuation of a familiar narrative, while Montenegro`s focus on cybersecurity shows a forward-looking, globally relevant strategy. The presence of high-level NATO figures and international cooperation on cyber defense signal that Montenegro is not just passively participating in global security it`s actively shaping its role. This duality of regional advocacy and international alignment reflects the complexity, but also the growing maturity, of Western Balkans politics today.
