Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Denis Bećirović met in Washington, at the United States Capitol, with Congressman Michael Turner (Republican Party), Deputy Chair of the Defense and Security Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Co-Chair of the Congressional Bosnia and Herzegovina Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives.
During the meeting, Bećirović informed Congressman Turner that Bosnia and Herzegovina, 30 years after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, is facing the most serious security crisis, caused by the pro-Russian and separatist leadership of the BiH entity RS, the statement said.
He emphasized that attempts to undermine the constitutional order of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina are still ongoing, and that the institutions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina must act in coordination with the international community in order to preserve the legal order of the state and the hard-won peace.
Bećirović emphasized that the proposal by the president of the BiH entity RS to negotiate directly with the FBiH entity is nothing but a ploy.
Entities exist only within the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and only the state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will decide on state-level matters.
The discussion particularly emphasized Bosnia and Herzegovina’s strategic commitment to NATO membership. Bećirović stressed that Euro-Atlantic integration represents the best framework for the long-term security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire Western Balkans region.
Congressman Turner reaffirmed that the United States remains a strong partner and ally of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and emphasized the importance of joint efforts in preserving peace, the rule of law, and the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of our country.
