Milatović Meets Zelensky in Tirana – Talks Peace, Support, and EU Hopes

Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the European Political Community Summit in Tirana. The two leaders talked about the relationship between their countries and what’s going on globally right now.

In a statement from Milatović’s team, it was shared that Montenegro supports Ukraine, the EU, and the U.S. in their efforts to work toward a temporary ceasefire and a peace process that’s backed by solid security guarantees.

Milatović reminded Zelensky that Montenegro was actually the first country outside the EU to offer temporary protection to people displaced by the war in Ukraine more than 10,000 Ukrainians have received that status, which is a big number for a small country.

They also talked about Ukraine starting EU membership talks last year. Milatović said Montenegro, as the most advanced EU candidate at the moment, will keep backing Ukraine’s European path.

The two also discussed current diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing lasting peace to Ukraine. Montenegro made it clear it supports any steps toward a fair and lasting peace, with real guarantees behind them.

In the end, both leaders agreed to keep the political dialogue going and continue working together in the spirit of solidarity and shared European values. Milatović also said he hopes Zelensky will visit Montenegro officially sometime soon.

It’s good to see smaller countries like Montenegro playing a supportive role in global issues. Sometimes, support isn’t just about big donations or armies it’s also about standing on the right side of things, offering protection to people in need, and showing up in important conversations. Montenegro might be small, but gestures like this build real trust and credibility especially when trying to walk the EU path.
