Bećirović informed Pierce about what is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina: He particularly emphasized one thing

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović met in Dayton with Karen Pierce, the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the Western Balkans, as part of the activities of the international conference marking the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

During the discussion, Bećirović emphasized that, in a time of serious threats to the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, strong and coordinated action by democratic forces is necessary, and that the proactive and constructive engagement of the United Kingdom is of great importance. He particularly highlighted the significance of the UK’s involvement, as one of the key witness states of the Dayton Peace Agreement. He stressed that the UK’s continuous and principled presence represents strong support for peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

In that context, Bećirović welcomed Karen Pierce’s recent visit to Sarajevo, as well as the arrival of the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy, describing it as a clear signal of the UK’s commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović informed the British special envoy that the attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the authorities of the RS entity is ongoing. He pointed out the seriousness of the current situation, stating that it is a systematic attempt to dismantle state institutions, with open support from authoritarian regimes. He emphasized that attacks on the constitutional structure of the state and the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina require a clear and resolute response from the international community.

Karen Pierce reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s strong commitment to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that the security of the Western Balkans and the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina are of strategic importance for both British and European security structures. She stressed the British government’s full support for the High Representative and his mandate, in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement, and stated that the United Kingdom will remain a firm partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina in defending peace and democratic institutions.

The meeting was also used for preparatory activities related to the upcoming visit of the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Kingdom, which is planned for next month, according to a statement from the Office of the BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović.
