Komšić at the Commemoration in London: The Genocide in Srebrenica Remains an Open Wound

Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić attended the commemoration marking the National Day of Remembrance of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the genocide in Srebrenica, held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, at the invitation of the organization Remembering Srebrenica UK and the UK Government.

In addition to Komšić, numerous dignitaries from Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world attended the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

“Today, in this sacred space of prayer and remembrance, we are gathered to pay tribute to the innocent victims of the genocide in Srebrenica 30 years ago. The genocide in Srebrenica remains an open wound in the souls of people, in the heart of every generation, and in the heart of every honorable and honest person. For 30 years, Srebrenica has reminded us that peace is not merely the absence of war — peace requires justice and truth, as well as human dignity. It remains a reminder for generations to come.”

“Today, more than ever, in the world we live in, we must be aware that peace without justice very often is not true peace, but a preparation for new conflicts and suffering. In that spirit, allow me to recall the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’

This message must be our vow — denial of committed crimes will never be tolerated. The victims will never be forgotten! Peace will be built, above all, on the foundations of truth, empathy, dignity, and reconciliation! Here, in the peace of St. Paul’s Cathedral, let us pay tribute to the innocent victims and their families.

Let us wish for a world where no one remains silent in the face of injustice, nor surrenders to silence. Let us raise our voices against everything that destroys, humiliates human dignity, and causes suffering,” Komšić said.
