Romanian troops arrive in Sarajevo to reinforce EUFOR ALTHEA mission

A detachment of Romanian servicemen has landed at Sarajevo Airport on Wednesday, marking the latest step in bolstering the multinational EUFOR ALTHEAA mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This group, drawn from the Intermediate Reserve Force, is expected to support various operational tasks, such as patrolling and collaborating with local security forces, to enhance stability throughout the region.

The decision to deploy these troops follows an invitation from local authorities, reinforcing the collaborative effort led by EUFOR to maintain peace and order. The mission, which includes contributions from several European countries, remains dedicated to upholding security and implementing strategic measures in line with the post-Dayton peace framework.

The activation of the Intermediate Reserve Force was carried out at the request of the Commander of Operation EUFOR ALTHEA, with additional forces being sent form the Czech Republic and Italy, along side the contingent provided by the Romanian Army.

Romania`s participation in this initiative highlights its ongoing commitment to regional security and international peacekeeping. By increasing its presence on the ground, the country aims to contribute to the broader objectives of preventing unrest and ensuring a safe environment for all communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
