High Representative Christian Schmidt, along with ambassadors from the Steering Board and members of the Board of main international institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited Srebrenica, where he held a series of important meetings ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
During a joint session with Deputy Mayor Hamdija Fejzić, Director of the Potočari Memorial Center Emir Suljagić, and representatives of victim associations, discussions focused on the preparations for the commemoration, as well as broader efforts to preserve the truth and ensure a dignified remembrance of the victims.
The Deputy High Representative, Louis Crishock, along with representatives from the OSCE, the United Kingdom, and Turkey, met with the Chief Imam, Damir-ef. Peštalić, to exchange views on the importance of interfaith dialogue and reconciliation within the local community.
High Representative Schmidt, along with EUFOR Commander General Florin-Marian Barbu and representatives from the European Union, the International Monetary Fund, France, and Sweden, also visited the humanitarian organization MFS-Emmaus, expressing support for their work with returnees and vulnerable groups.
“Today’s meetings remind us that remembrance must be followed by action and responsibility. Through the joint efforts of local leaders, international partners, and civil society, we can preserve the truth, support survivors, and invest in a future based on dignity, reconciliation, and peace,” Schmidt stated, concluding his visit.
